Defining Pump Types:


Centrifugal Pumps:
A pump that uses an impeller to move water or other fluids.  Centrifugal force pushes the liquid outward from the eye of the impeller where it enters the casing.

Circulator Pumps:
A circulator pump is a specific type of pump used to circulate gases, liquids, or slurries in a closed circuit. Typically used in chemical refineries, paper and textile plants and dry cleaning.

Dewatering Pumps:
a de-watering process involves using a centrifugal pump (submersible or vertical turbine) to remove water from a construction site, pond, mine shaft, or any other area.

Drum Pumps:
Designed to provide safe and easy transfer of a wide range of fluids including difficult to handle liquids such as acids, bases and solvents.


Effluent Pumps:
Removes natural or pretreated liquid waste discharge from a sewage treatment system that has seeped into surface water. Types of pumps include submersible and non-submersible.

Grinder Pump:
A grinder pump is a wastewater conveyance device. Waste from water-using household appliances (toilets, bathtubs, washing machines, etc.)

High Pressure Pumps:
Used in many applications including water blast, hydro-mining, and jet cutting. They can be a wide variety of pumps types including positive displacement pumps, rotary pumps and reciprocating pumps, or centrifugal pumps. These types of pumps can be run in continuous-duty applications but require full discharge of pump flow or bypass of a portion of the flow through pressure relief valves.

Industrial Pumps:
Used in industrial applications such as slurry, wastewater, industrial chemicals, oil and gas, etc.

Irrigation Pumps:
Usually some form of centrifugal pump type. They are often used for agriculture application where water needs to be moved from a water source to dry land.


Jet Pump:
Are used for a variety of applications involving the movement of water from a water source to a destination. If your home is supplied primarily by well water, you may need a jet pump to pull water up from a well if the depth is greater than 25 feet.

Pressure Pumps:
Used to create either high or low pressure. They can be metering pumps, and sometimes booster pumps.

Transfer Pumps:
Fuel transfer pumps help make handling oils, fuels and other non-corrosive liquids safe and efficient.

Trash Pumps:
Trash pumps are meant to pump water as well as other debris and solids. There are several types of trash pumps including diaphragm and semi-trash pumps.

Utility Pumps:
In an emergency, a utility pump is the first pump you want to have on hand. Use these devices to remove water from window wells, rooftops, flooded areas or for draining sinks, aquariums and waterbeds.

Well Pumps:
A water well pump is a pump that is used in extracting water from a water well. They include different kinds of pumps, most of them submersible pumps: Hand pump, manually operated. Injector, a jet-driven pump.

    Shallow Well Pump: A shallow well pump pushes out water using a pipe or pipes. The pump is suitable when the vertical distance is 25 feet or less water depth.
    • Deep Well Pump: Deep well pumps will reach as far down as 200-500 feet.

Self Priming Pumps:
The term "self-priming pump" describes a centrifugal pump that can use an air-water mixture to reach a fully-primed pumping condition.


Submersible Pumps:
A submersible pump (or sub pump) is a device which has a sealed motor close-coupled to the pump body. The whole assembly is submerged in the fluid to be pumped.
